Cuerpo Escombro (The Rubble Body)
Climate change, global warming, gas emissions, recycling, the European Green Pact. What to do with all this? How can dance be involved in the care of our planet? How to create from waste? How to give visibility to what is happening around us?
These are some of the questions that have led us to create this short film, Cuerpo Escombro (The Rubble Body), in collaboration with the dance duo Encaramadas. This video was part of the exhibition 'I, Present', at Hypha Studios June - August 2024.
This film explores the contamination of our oceans, the restrictions of movement and migration of the sea life, the rising of sea levels, and how our well being, life, and our hometown could be in danger. The duo Encaramadas, are dancing wrapped, covered, and supported by a net made by a collection of dozens of net scraps. We have the image in mind of the women of the sea tying nets, those women from our hometown, Cadiz, where this short film was recorded. We make a presence of our roots and a craftsmanship that is disappearing, joining together the small pieces to create a mantle that gives colour and meaning to the film. Also, used as the main image of the exhibition.
Location - Cadiz, Spain. Recorded during April-May 2024
