Under Surveillance

For the second part of the Gaza Biennale, grief, loss, and a multitude of complex emotions become a tangible experience.

Under Surveillance is a multi-sensory solo exhibition by the Palestinian artist Hamada El-Kept that translates grief, loss, and a multitude of complex emotions into a tangible experience. It confronts the brutal and harsh mistreatment of Gazans which is recognised by the majority of humanity.

The artworks lead us through the sharp, dangerous turns in the lives of those in Gaza, people forced to live under constant scrutiny. The occupation invades their privacy, violating their  dignity and stealing intimate family moments, experiences understood only by those who have lived them in a land that continues to absorb countless explosives yet refuses to die. Each piece here tells a story from the lives of Gazans enduring collective extermination, presented through contemporary art that allows us to feel emotions rooted in the shared human foundation from which we were all created from.

Under Surveillance is not only about Gaza; it speaks to all those who live under surveillance, whether hidden or in the open. We must open our eyes wide, before we, too, fall into the abyss of destruction.
