Carrie Mae Weems retrospective

This is how an epic retrospective is done. Yes, Carrie Mae Weems can be one of my favourite artists but this retrospective is a must do, it is the first major exhibition in the UK but beyond that, I can tell when an exhibition is curated with love and respect, and how the essence of the artist is in every step.

The show is stunning, not only for the work displayed, but as a whole, the relations between the works, the narratives, how informative it is, and the intimacy that brings in some rooms. A very immersive way into Carrie’s world. Exploring identity, power, desire, and social justice with photographs, installations, and films, Carrie Mae Weems challenges representations of race, gender, and class. And you know that those are my artsy soft spots.
