I was so excited to see Nuri’s work in person while I was in Istanbul. The drama of the light and contrast are spot on in his portraits. The exhibition brought together 22 portraits taken around the world where the depth of human experiences bind us together while simultaneously bringing to mind that our lives cannot be separated from geography. He focused on the common emotions across geographies rather than the differences, making us feel connected, and that’s awesome.
It was colour-palette curated, with labels not only explaining the photograph but also the kind of camera that he uses and how, his travel notes, people’s insights, their connection to the landscape and geography, etc. Very minimal, but the protagonists were the big scale printed photographs and their relations.
Super informative, super visual, super happy.
