A Canvas of Courage

An old chapel, with activist works, I’m in. “A Canvas of Courage” bridged our divided world through activist art in support of human rights across East Asia with an amazing collaboration between Amnesty UK, Artvocate and Unichapel Church.

The exhibition explored powerful expressions of resistance promoting human rights while building connections with the diaspora activists and artists. I love a community project-exhibition and when the project is led by heart and purpose. I was happy to see artists from Myanmar and what is going in there, something that is not much covered in the media; different mediums, the so outspoken artists from Hong Kong, and the Pillar of Shame presiding the room and acting as a pillar for all the stories surrounding the space.

Perhaps an exhibition description upon entrance, not so extensive labels, the sound/music from the video work playing to create an atmosphere, and playing more with the space would help but at the end of the day, curating is also a conversation between curator, artist, and audience and it is a personal, different, and totally valid one at all times.
