Many art fairs later and finally I made it to Frieze

I am still saying that I don’t like fairs. Let's get things straight. But everything is not negative. Hold on with me.

I saw the same sterile walls with no music and with very little risks taken -don't tell me that the new floor plan is mind blowing-. There was also a live painting that I missed because it doesn't last during the whole fair. Don't tell me that it wouldn't be good to have more of a laugh, more performances, more live sessions, more artists taking over even when it comes to curating, more risks, more everything. Dynamism is needed, please! For example, take all the blowy penguins that Benedikte Bjerre can find in stock and throw them all over the fair so at least we can reflect ourselves on how passive masses we are. Then, I would say, that’s funny (even if I didn’t like the penguins "artwork"). Don't sell me a new floor plan, it is not enough although I appreciate the breakdown in the galleries hierarchy.

But -here is the happy ending- it is true that you can discover amazing artists, admire outstanding work, smile to those that you know already and share notes about them, gossip about those that “meh!” and check out outfits. And that’s fun, more if you catch up with a peer. Art for the sake of it and I’m here for it. You know I am truly am. So here are my highlights from Frieze London:

1-2. The work of Jade Haus blowed my mind. The gentle darkness and portal to the unknown that I needed.

3. Emily Kraus with her leave it with the flow and temporal reflections

4-6. STUNNING, in capitals, yes. The work by Jesse Mockrin depicts female characters in art history and myths with such an outstanding technique.

7. The intimacy and pleats of Alex Gardner

8. The symbolism of Lee Jaeseok

9. I will always pick Hew Locke no matter what

10. Queer, childish, soft, activist, straight forward, depressive, and dreamy. My favourite corner by Sands Murray-Wassik.

11-12. The composition, leading lines, colour, references, and everything from Ji Xiin.

13. How a whole piece of caraca marble gets a plastic-ish effect, so light, so flexible, so dynamic, made by Kevin Francis Gray.

14. Surrealism and beads by Charlotte Edey.

Until next year.
