Last exhibition visit of the year and when you don’t take your feminism for granted.
“Body Politics” is such an amazing exhibition at the Barbican. Carolee Schneemann experimented her own sexual expression, the objectification and oppression of women, war, mortality, her own fight with cancer, and so on with every medium possible, even with her own body. She challenged the idea that the body and mind are divided. But also the male gaze. The show compiles an extensive body of work, showcasing a major part of Carolee's career. I quite liked how wider, informative and dynamic the exhibition was. Full of creative expression and reinforcing the power of the body: exhibiting it and taking space.
